The Provost is the chief academic officer of the University. The mission of the Provost’s Office is to promote and support excellence in all dimensions of the University's academic, research, scholarly and creative programs and activities. These records reflect the daily business of the Office of the Provost during the tenure of David Auston. The collection consists of materials gathered by Michael Hammond in pursuit of his varied academic interests in early music, acoustics, neuroscience, and the relationship of neuroscience and music. They research, develop and share press releases and record special events on video or audio. That charge led to this collection that consists mostly of VHS tapes which contain news broadcasts and raw footage covering Rice University events or featuring speakers representing Rice University on many topics.
