Biographical/Historical Note
Founded a year after the Fondren Library was built, The Friends of Fondren Library gathered together under a common interest to see the library grow and expand. The members early on decided to create the Flyleaf in order to increase membership and to acquire the funds necessary to increase and to improve the resources of the library. A collection of thirty French scientific monographs presented in the name of the French Government was the first recorded gift to the Fondren Library through the Friends organization.Today, the Friends continue to promote growth for the library through events such as the Friends of Fondren Gala and receptions honoring Rice authors, composers, and editors.
