The collection consists primarily of business and personal correspondence of three particular descendants of William Marsh Rice and of the spouse of one of them. Also included are a few items from 1929 and 1930 associated with other family members.

The collection consists of tape recorded interviews with nine people who were closely familiar with the architectural work of William Ward Watkin. The recordings are in digital mp3 format and on original microcassettes, including the recording equipment with which they were made. No transcripts currently exist for this material. The collections contains extensive research files on James A. Baker and his family, including biographical, genealogical and law firm, recollections of family members and friends, correspondence and newsclips, as well as numerous photographs of family members, houses and family events. This material was gathered in 2011-2012 by Kate Kirkland in preparation for the publication of her biography of Baker, published in 2012.

This collection consists of the business and personal papers of Houston businessman and Rice University donor Speros Martel.

Research materials compiled by Dr. Keith Hamm, Edwards Professor in the Rice University Dept. of Political Science, dealing with development of specialization in U.S. state legislatures during the 20th century, policymaking, committee voting, interest groups, campaign finance, state laws, and reports.

The Camille Waggaman/Waggaman Family Collection consists largely of photographs and newspaper articles but also includes some personal correspondence and memorabilia. The bulk of the material regards Camille Waggaman and focuses upon her radio career (1932-1963) and upon the years after her retirement. Regional or local historians may find these of interest since the Waggamans were among the most prominent plantation families of Louisiana.

The Southern Association for Women Historians presents an annual meeting known as the Southern Conference of Women’s History. These annual conference records are predominantly from the conference held at Rice University in Houston, Texas from June 2-5, 1994. Records include planning documents, correspondence, surveys and realia that date from 1989-1997.

The collection contains records and printed material on the early land holdings and dealings of William Marsh Rice and the Rice Institute in 45 Texas counties and 4 Louisiana parishes. The collection also contains records and printed material concerning early Rice Institute campus construction, legal matters (including judicial settlements and statements), institutional housekeeping (including receipts and invoices from 1891-1907), and campus area property and construction.

This collection contains a wide variety of realia from Rice University's history, including a variety of jewelry pieces, clothing, athletics-related materials, and various other objects.
