Abstract

Photographs, correspondence, genealogical charts and notes, newsclippings and printed materials related to the Townsend and Burford families of Texas dating back to pre-Republic of Texas era. The town now known as Round Top, TX, on Cummins Creek, was previously known as Townsend, TX. Many of the Townsend family members participated in the Battle of San Jacinto. Both the Townsends and the Burfords have been very active in civic life.

This collection contains the Charles Ricketts and Charles Shannon research material of Dr. Carl Woodring including correspondence, articles and theses, works, Vale Press items, exhibition catalogs and other printed material. An extensive book collection, paintings and drawings are included in the collection.

The Hobby Family Foundation is a non-profit organization organized in 1940 and located in Houston, Texas. The Hobby Foundation Records include information covering legal correspondences between the Hobby family, the Hobby Foundation, and the Houston Post Company, foundation corporate minute books (which comprise most of the collection), and financial records.

Abstract William G. Farrington, 1901-1967, was a real estate developer of residential and commercial property in the Greater Houston Area. He is especially known for creating Tanglewood, wealthy neighborhood located west of the Galleria area in Houston, Texas. This collection contains a bound volume of many letters of condolence to J.D. Sandefer Jr.’s children. The letters are sent by various bankers, attorneys, businessmen, and the Presidents of Baylor University, Hardin-Simmons University, and Howard Payne University. All of the letters extol Sandefer’s abilities as a businessman, friend, and civic leader.
