27. Texas and local history

This is a collection of oral history interviews either created or maintained by Dr. Edward C. M. Chen, featuring audio recordings and transcripts of interviews with Asian Americans in Houston.

This collection consists of digital and printed scans and copies from Don Sanders' scrapbooks.

This collection contains items documenting the Houston Folk music scene from the 1970s-1980s.

The Pimp C rap artist collection includes several documents and promotional items including handwritten lyrics and contracts to promotional flats for his group Underground Kingz (UGK).

Correspondence, scrapbooks, business papers, ledgers, tributes and memorials, audiotapes of oral history interviews, clippings, photos, and other papers of Sharp and his wife, Estelle (Boughton) Sharp, active in Houston, Tex., civic and philanthropic affairs. Topics include oil industry, lives of the Sharp family, Howard Hughes family, growth of Houston, Spindletop Oil Field, founding of the Texas Company and Sharp-Hughes Tool Company, and establishment of United Charities.

The bulk of these papers represent Barnes’ writing and journalism career, from her early college years to her lengthy career at the Houston Post newspaper. Included are photocopies of her articles, columns, reviews and editorials, typescripts of her works, photographs, and a small amount of family and biographical materials.

These papers are comprised of the research materials Johnston gathered to write "Houston, The Unknown City," published 1991 by Texas A & M Press. Included amongst these materials are oral histories, newspaper clippings, photocopies of secondary source materials, brochures, newsletters, and photographs either created, gathered, or maintained by Barnes. Dates range from 1830-1991, bulk 1920-1991.

Founded in March 1976 by business, institutional and civic leaders, the South Main Center Association is a private, non-profit community and economic development organization which represents the residential, commercial and institutional interests of the approximately 12.5 square mile South Main area located within the inner loop. In 2005, the South Main Center Association (SMCA) was renamed the South Main Alliance. These records reflect the daily business of the organization.

The papers of Billie Carr, political organizer in the liberal wing of the Democratic Party, include correspondence, office files, photographs, and memorabilia pertaining to her work in the Harris County Democrats, Texas Democrats, Democratic National Committee, New Democratic Coalition, and Billie Carr & Associates.

Correspondence, memos, oral history interviews, political pamphlets, broadsides, and clippings, relating to Hall's involvement with the Texas and national Democratic parties and soil and water conservation and improvement. Correspondents include Minnie Fisher Cunningham, Hubert H. Humphrey, Lyndon B. Johnson, Sam Rayburn, Jim Wright, and Ralph Yarborough.
