Marguerite Johnston Barnes Personal Papers
The bulk of these papers represent Barnes’ writing and journalism career, from her early college years to her lengthy career at the Houston Post newspaper. Included are photocopies of her articles, columns, reviews and editorials, typescripts of her works, photographs, and a small amount of family and biographical materials.
Marguerite Johnston Barnes Research Materials for Houston, The Unknown City, 1836-1946
These papers are comprised of the research materials Johnston gathered to write "Houston, The Unknown City," published 1991 by Texas A & M Press. Included amongst these materials are oral histories, newspaper clippings, photocopies of secondary source materials, brochures, newsletters, and photographs either created, gathered, or maintained by Barnes. Dates range from 1830-1991, bulk 1920-1991.
South Main Alliance records
Founded in March 1976 by business, institutional and civic leaders, the South Main Center Association is a private, non-profit community and economic development organization which represents the residential, commercial and institutional interests of the approximately 12.5 square mile South Main area located within the inner loop. In 2005, the South Main Center Association (SMCA) was renamed the South Main Alliance. These records reflect the daily business of the organization.
