Overview This collection contains the autobiographical memoir of Hugh R. McKean, Rice Alumnus, class of 1922. The memoirs cover the early 20th century (through 1922) and for the most part describe the life of a farmer’s family in South Texas. A fair amount of the memoirs concern his years as a student, letterman, and Hohenthal Award winner at the Rice Institute. In addition, the memoirs provide McKean’s observations about events in Houston during the WWI era.

Russell Wait, Director of the Port of Houston from 1930-1947, offering a comprehensive history of the Port of Houston's construction, facilities, finances, clients and operations from 1931-1962. During this time, the Port of Houston grew from the nation's twelfth largest port to its third largest. Materials also relate to the Brazos River Harbor Navigation District, Houston Ship Channel maps, and scrapbooks on WWII and Japan.

Overview Champions Golf Club was founded by golfing greats Jimmy Demaret and Jack Burke, Jr. in 1957 with the purpose of promoting the game of golf and bring active competition to its members and guests and to host significant national championships. Overview Records of Jack Rowland's military service in the Works Progress Administration, including formats such as newsclippings, correspondence, 1943 WPA Final Report in Texas, war ration card and other identification and induction cards. Houstonian Jack W. Rowland served as the Regional Director of the Works Project Administration from 1939-1943.
