Captain James A. Baker of Houston, 1857-1941 biography research materials
The collections contains extensive research files on James A. Baker and his family, including biographical, genealogical and law firm, recollections of family members and friends, correspondence and newsclips, as well as numerous photographs of family members, houses and family events. This material was gathered in 2011-2012 by Kate Kirkland in preparation for the publication of her biography of Baker, published in 2012.
Card G. Elliott, Jr. Family collection
Letters, diaries, scrapbooks, and notebooks belonging to various members of the Elliott family, dating from 1830-1951. The majority of the collection's letters are from the early 20th-century, though some date from the U.S. Civil War (describing life in Mississippi). Other materials describe farm life in Kansas, railroad business, attendance at Rice Institute, and the family life of the Elliotts.
