Organizational History History
Founded in 1919, The Kiwanis Club of Houston is the oldest Kiwanis Club chapter in the Houston area. The Club is a part of Kiwanis International, a community service organization with a network of over 15,000 Kiwanis clubs across the globe. The Kiwanis mission statement is “to serve the children of the world.” With over 100 members, the Houston Club serves the children and young people of the Houston area.
The Houston Clubs major initiatives include the Key Clubs, which organize high school students to participate in community service projects, and raising funds through its Annual Charity Golf Tournament and Bike Ride. The Club also run the Kiwanis Back to School Express, and serves free meals at Bo’s Place. In 1966, the Houston Club created the Kiwanis Foundation of Houston to assist in raising funds and supporting the Club’s services.
