S.L. Wisenberg family papers
Scope and Contents
Two scrapbooks containing photographs, school report cards, programs, newspaper clippings, agendas, and correspondence; materials documenting events at Congregation Beth Yeshurun, including materials from the 100th Anniversary Celebration; youth organization materials; and a story written by the donor document the interests and activities of S.L. Wisenberg from 1961 to 2001. The scrapbooks remain intact and original order was maintained, although loose materials stuck in the front and back covers have been removed and foldered separately. Of particular interest is a 1965 Astros program from the inaugural season in the Astrodome, school records from Beth Yeshurun School, and Congregation Beth Yeshurun anniversary/dedication books which document the history of the congregation from its founding up to 1991.

Permission to publish material from the S.L. Wisenberg family papers must be obtained from the Woodson Research Center, Fondren Library.
The Woodson Research Center use policy is that researchers assume sole responsibility for any infringement of privacy, literary rights, copyrights, or other rights arising from their use of the archival materials. In addition to any restrictions placed by donors, certain kinds of archival materials are restricted for the life of the creator plus 50 years. These materials include, but are not limited to, student grades, transcripts, and any job applications or recommendations.
Biographical / Historical
Sandra (Sandi) Leah Wisenberg was born December 13, 1955 in Houston, Texas. Wisenberg grew up in the Meyerland community in Houston and attended Bellaire High School in the early 1970s. While in high school Sandra worked on the school newspaper. Following graduation, she received a B.S. in journalism from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism and an M.F.A. from the University of Iowa. Sandi is a published author -- under the name S.L. Wisenberg -- and lives in Chicago. In addition to numerous articles published in newspapers and magazines around the country, Sandi has published three books: The Sweetheart Is In, Holocaust Girls: History, Memory, & Other Obsessions, and The Adventures of Cancer Bitch. She is now an instructor and head of teaching internships at the Northwestern's M.A./M.F.A. in Creative Writing program.
