Abstract The collection contains much of the history of the Shepherd School of Music including information on the Shepherd family and foundation, as well as departmental correspondence, news clippings, music reviews, brochures, concert calendars, announcements, and invitations, including those for the dedication of the school and the Alice Pratt Brown Hall. Much of the collection is comprised of programs; the bulk of the collection are performances saved in various formats, many of them obsolete....

Abstract

Arthur E. Hall (1901-1978), one time Chairman of Rice University's Shepherd School of Music (1953-1973), is known as a composer of orchestral, choral and chamber ensemble music. His papers include correspondence, original compositions, arrangements, settings, and harmonizations by Hall, as well as audio recordings of his performances and materials from the Charles Ives family.

Abstract:

Thirteen individual leaves of rare 15th and 16th century original music manuscripts depicting portions Catholic masses and prayers in Latin, hand drawn and beautifully illustrated with brilliant tempera paints on large vellum sheets. The Lambiotte Family/Francis Poulenc archive contains materials that document Poulenc's life and career during his long friendship with the Lambiotte family, a Belgian family with close ties of friendship to the composer. The collection includes autograph musical manuscripts, signed and inscribed printed musical scores, letters, photographs, publications, and ephemera. Dates for the collection range from 1920 to 1994, with bulk dates from 1920 to 1963.
