Abstract

Arthur E. Hall (1901-1978), one time Chairman of Rice University's Shepherd School of Music (1953-1973), is known as a composer of orchestral, choral and chamber ensemble music. His papers include correspondence, original compositions, arrangements, settings, and harmonizations by Hall, as well as audio recordings of his performances and materials from the Charles Ives family.

Thirteen individual leaves of rare 15th and 16th century original music manuscripts depicting portions Catholic masses and prayers in Latin, hand drawn and beautifully illustrated with brilliant tempera paints on large vellum sheets. Abstract The Francis Poulenc archive contains two autograph autograph musical manuscripts by Francis Poulenc, dedicated and inscribed to operatic singer Denise Duval. In August 1960 he composed a series of melodies, based on various poems by Maurice CarĂªme, titled La Courte-Paille (The Shortest Straw).
