22. Rice University faculty and administrative records

The Dean of Engineering Records cover the years 1951 to 2011 for the Engineering School at Rice Univeristy in Houston, Texas. The records include the papers of several deans and staff. Topics include academics, research projects, faculty, and general administration.

The collection consists of records representing the official business of the committee that selected Malcolm Gillis as the sixth president of Rice University. The records include committee membership, correspondence, 120 candidate files, input from faculty, staff, and students.

The collection consists of materials created by participants in the NSF-funded ADVANCE Project, which was undertaken to increase the participation of women faculty and faculty of color in the departments of science, technology, engineering, and math at Rice University. There are records of meetings, surveys, workshops, research articles, and electronic versions of sponsored events.

The records document the Boniuk Institute from its founding in 2004 as the Boniuk Center for the Study and Advancement of Reglious Tolerance to the current Boniuk Institute in 2019.

The Jeffrey J. Kripal Papers mostly covers Kripal’s tenure at Rice University up to 2015 (and will eventually cover at least up to 2019) but also reaches as far back as 1970. It includes correspondence, unpublished manuscripts, course materials, and on-going research.

The academic papers of Mark Kulstad contain hand-written notes from his graduate studies, hand-written comments on his drafts of published articles on Leibniz, Spinoza, Descartes and Locke, his published articles on Leibniz, Spinoza, and Descartes, his hand-written notes from History of Philosophy conferences, and student's hand-written evaluations of his work at Rice.

This collection is composed of correspondence, memos, minutes, reports, commencement procedures, notices and emails that document the activities of Rice University standing committees between 1946 and 2000.

The collection consists of a variety of visual images--slides, CDs, and photographic prints--of people, events, and activities of the Rice University Bioengineering Department from its establishment in 1997 to 2008, when the ten-year anniversary was celebrated.

These papers contain course materials, publications authored or co-authored by Dr. Hellums, and documents related to the academic and departmental activities of the Biomedical Engineering Laboratory and Chemical Engineering at Rice University.

In 1971 Sewall Hall was constructed making space available for a permanent art gallery at Rice University referred to as the Sewall Gallery and later as Rice University Art Gallery. These records reflect the exhibitions held there and related administrative functions.
