Scope and Contents

The collection includes Diana P. Hobby's writing and research notes, from the early 1950s to 2014, focused on her study of William Butler Yeats. The bulk of the collection consists of family photographs and slides from the Hobby family's worldwide travels and their frequent visits to Ireland, and to Diana Hobby's family farm in North Carolina, Forest Home, along with their equestiran endeavors and competitions, and their lives and friends in Houston, TX.

William W. Akers Chemical Engineering papers and Rice University Vice President for Administration records

William Ward Watkin family papers

Abstract

Correspondence, photographs, family trees, vital records and other genealogical material related to the Watkin family of Houston, TX (1910s-current) and of Danville, Pennsylvania (late 19th century). William Ward Watkin (1886-1952) was the first Supervising Architect of Rice Institute and the first chair of the Dept. of Architecture at Rice Institute. His daughter, Ray Watkin Strange, is a Rice graduate and significant supporter of Rice University and the Fondren Library.

Women of Rice interviews and exhibition records

Abstract

Correspondence, interview transcripts and materials related to Dr. Linda Driskill's Rice Women's Conference in 1999. The 2012-2013 interviews were conducted by students in two classes of the Introduction to the Study of Women, Gender, and Sexuality, one under Dr. Lora Wildenthal and the other under Dr. Abigail Rosas, in preparation for the 2014 exhibition and symposium at Fondren Library.

Yellen Family Papers

The Yellen Family papers are comprised of photographs and memorabilia related to Milton Yellen’s time practicing dentistry in New Guinea for the army during World War II, and photographs and newsclippings of his wife Florence Kless Yellen throughout her life. The collection also contains religious and army certificates, publications, and correspondence depicting the Yellen family’s connections to the Jewish community.
