Abstract

This collection contains two documents, both written in German: one a marriage certificate, dated 1830, of Johann Heinrich Dreyer (Dreier) to Johanne Dorothee Evers; the second a passport for the Dreier family from Braunschweig, Germany to Texas (1846). An English translation of both documents is also included.

Mirabeau Buonaparte Lamar travel journal

Abstract:

On his 1835 trip from Georgia to Texas, Mirabeau Buonaparte Lamar kept a manuscript diary. The journal is written in continuous narrative form, with frequent historical or descriptive passages inserted, covering the months June-October, 1835, the period during which Lamar apparently made his decision to settle in Texas permanently and join in the Texian battle for independence from Mexico.

Sheerness Naval Yard Logbook

Abstract

This collection consists of a 161-page handwritten logbook, penned (probably) by William Ward, whose name appears on the front pastedown endpaper. The majority of entries are Orders of the Day, letters, memoranda, and accounts of expenditures. Each entry is initialed by at least three officers; some are initialed by as many as eight officers.

This collection consists of the physical materials that are represented digitally in the Travelers in the Middle East Archive (TIMEA), a collection created to make possible the study of Western interactions with the Middle East, particularly travel to Egypt in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The materials are of diverse types: images in the forms of post cards, photographs, and stereograph films; articles, pamphlets, and travel guidebooks; maps, and souvenirs.
