The manuscript consists of four notebooks, written in the hand of Albert Sherrad Campbell at St. Louis, Missouri, covering the early months of the U.S. Civil War. Included are descriptions of battles and other political and military events.

The Alex J. Dessler Academic Papers chroncile primarily the Rice University career of the Professor Emeritus of Space Physics & Astronomy. The bulk of his papers are in the correspondence and publications series. Meeting notes and proposals are detailed, and the visuals show images and drawings used for various presentations and talks. His personal materials follow his career outside of Rice and also include some of his honors.
Alexander Hobbs Diary and Bible

Alexander N. Shipley Military Commissions
Five commissions recording the military promotions of Alexander N. Shipley from 2nd Lieutenant (1858) to Brevet Lieutenant Colonel (1866), and containing either authentic or stamped signatures of U. S. Presidents (James Buchanan, Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Johnson); also included is a smaller document relating to Shipley’s promotion to Brevet Lieutenant Colonel .

Allan Cunningham papers
The bulk of this collection is comprised of correspondence to and from art historian Allan Cunningham. The correspondence largley concerns matters connected with Cunningham's numerous publishing projects, including his Lives of the Most Eminent British Painters, Sculptors, and Architects, which appeared between 1829 and 1833. Also included in the collection are three Mss. poems--one perhaps by the Rev. J. Judkins and two by Cunningham.
