Biographical Note

The Rice University Faculty Senate is a represenatative body of university faculty members, who convene in order to investigate, discuss, and decide on matters relating to academic affairs at the university. The Senate's powers, duties and membership, and its rules regulating elections and meetings are specified in the Rice University Senate constitution.

The Rice University Faculty Senate was created on Feburary 28, 2005, when it replaced the Faculty Council, the body that previously handled the aforementioned responsibilities. The Faculty Senate executive committee is comprised of ten faculty members, each representing different schools and departments.
