Abstract

This collection includes sources which document Gee restaurants and/or events, the family of Jane and Albert Gee, and activities of the Chinese American Citizens Alliance (Houston Chapter). Formats include photos (circa 75), letters, plaques, awards, certificates, newspaper clippings, magazine clippings, brochures, pamphlets.

The collection consists of the scans of Mr. Hong's scrapbook, which includes 109 photos of community events. There are photos of Explorer Scouts at their air base, meetings of the American Legion, American-Chinese post no. 596, Houston Tx, VA dinners, American Legion trip to Washington, DC., Veteran's Day parade, City of Houston Proclamation Day, and the Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Celebration.

The Bapsi Sidhwa papers comprise the books, drafts, notes, and personal papers of the acclaimed American-Pakistani author Bapsi Sidhwa. Known for her captivating novels exploring mainly women’s issues in the Indian subcontinent, Bapsi has made her mark with her deeply insightful prose and outspoken voice.

Abstract The materials in this collection reflect the activities of the Houston Filipino American community, over several generations. These activities include political and historical achievements, such as Filipino American WWII Soldier Recognition project materials, Filipino Veterans of World War II Congressional Gold Medal Act celebrations; celebrating Filipino American History Month; as well as cultural resources such as a community cookbook, and a Filipino American history book. This collection includes print materials such as event flyers and programs, genealogies, and circa 20 photographs, primarily regarding the activities of the Gee Family Association in Houston, Texas.

Possibly the first Filipino TV show in Houston, “Halo Halo TV” now exists as a web series, “Halo Halo Houston”--both focusing on Filipinx culture within the Houston Metropolitan area. Donated by the producer of the show, Cybil Pallugna-Saenz, this collection contains original recordings for the show, which made great strides of Filipino media representation in the early 2000s.
