Abstract: S. M. McAshan wrote this letter to T. W. House in Houston, Texas on July 18, 1864. The letter written during the Civil War concerns two items. First, McAshan asks about correspondence for J. M. Putnam in Eagle Pass. Secondly, he asks about a transaction regarding bagging rope and trim for cotton for Lt. Col. Hutchins. The John W. Hutcheson papers include correspondence to and from Texas attorney and soldier Hutcheson before and during the U.S. Civil War, a text of a speech on immigration (1852), documents relating to the Masonic Order, a license to practice law in Texas, and several newspaper issues (1862, 1863, 1898, 1903) describing Hutcheson's life and his military career with the 4th Texas Regiment.

Abstract:

The bulk of the correspondence is from Young M. Moody to his “Dear and Confiding Wife.”, written during the U.S. Civil War. In addition there are other family letters, military correspondence, land and business records, photographs, daguerreotypes and badges of rank and an epaulet from General Moody’s uniform.
