Biographical / Historical

Nothing is known at this time about the collector, Earle C. Douglas, Jr. Jefferson Davis (1808-1889) was an American politician who served as President of the Confederate States of America from 1861 to 1865 during the Civil War.

Judah P. Benjamin (1811-1884) was an American politician and lawyer who was a citizen of the Confederate States of America. He held three consecutive Cabinet positions in the government of the Confederate States of America, but previously was a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives and a U.S. Senator from Louisiana.

Steven R. Mallory (1813-1873) was an American politician and Secretary of the Navy for the Confederate States of America during the Civil War. Mallory was considered to be one of President Davis’ best Cabinet officers.
