11. Jewish community

The Weinstein Family papers showcase Irving and Lily Weinstein, and their ties to the broader Houston Jewish community. Irving’s service in World War II and Lily’s civic engagement with both San Jacinto High School and Congregation Beth Israel are preserved in the letters they exchanged while Irving was overseas. Featuring photographs, news clippings, and a plethora of military correspondence and documentation, the Weinstein Family papers offer insight into a century of Jewish History.

The collection contains correspondence, photographs, news clippings, citizenship paperwork, a confirmation certificate, a book on the history of Temple Israel, guides to Jewish cemeteries in the area, and an oral history interview with Paula Schwartz Stein which document part of the lives of members of the Schwartz and Stein families within the Schulenburg Jewish community and events at Temple Israel from 1925-2020.

The collection consists of one box containing nine letters in Yiddish from Morris Greenfield to his future wife, Bessie Peters (Polycov), in 1915 and one large family photograph with three generation of Greenfields from 1918.

This collection is made up of one box containing correspondence, photographs, news clippings, certificates, newsletters, and programs from the Schlanger Family, spanning from 1937-1985.

This collection is made up of one box containing B'nai B'rith Youth Organization (BBYO) event programs from Aleph Zadik Aleph (AZA) and B'nai B'rith Girls (BBG), as well as event programs from Sigma Alpha Rho. The programs were donated by Alan Lipman and span from 1970-1982.

This collection is made up of one box containing bulletins, certificates, correspondence, event materials, photographs, programs, and scrapbooks from the Epstein Family, spanning from 1939-1999.

This collection is made up of one box containing rosters/address books, calendars, camp information materials, publications, and religious school materials from the Rubinsky Family, spanning from 1991-2001.

The Bob Rubin collection provides a glimpse into the life of a young Jewish man growing up within the Houston communities of his school system and synagogue in the 1950s and 60s. Bob Rubin’s dedication to his studies and wider community is well-documented in the collection materials, which range from report cards and yearbooks to photographs and graduation certificates.

This collection is made up of one box containing awards, books, event materials, memorabilia, and organization documents from the B'nai B'rith Youth Organization, spanning from 1956-2011.

BBYO yearbooks, an oral history interview, speeches given by Bell, and programs and booklets from Congregations Adath Emeth and Beth Yeshurun events document some of the activities David Bell participated in from 1941 to 2023.
