This collection contains a letter written by John Brown to his wife. It was written from Grigsby’s Bluff and gives news of the people there, in particular, their health. Grigsby’s Bluff was located on the Neches River in Eastern Jefferson County. Its name was changed to Port Neches in 1901.

A leather-bound hand-written diary kept by John C. Crosby, first from 1861 to 1862 during the United States Civil War while Crosby served in the Seventh Maine Regiment of the Union army (probably as a hospital orderly), recording daily activities in tending the sick while moving about on campaign; then, from 1865 to 1868 after Crosby’s return to civilian life, recording his activities and personal finances as a hired farm worker.

John Churchill letter to Allen Bathurst
This letter was written by John Churchill (John, Marquis of Blandford) 1690-1703, who was the son of the first Duke of Marlborough, grandson of Sir Winston Churchill. The recipient, Allen Bathurst (first Earl Bathurst) was later to become treasurer to the Prince of Wales in 1757. Churchill expresses his happiness that Barnhurst plans to attend the upcoming coronation of Queen Anne, and sends regards on behalf of Baron Horatio Walpole.
