Scope and Contents
This collection contains a series of typed letters (1981-1982) from Professor Thomas, a member of the Rice University English faculty, to Nancy Boothe, Director of the Woodson Research Center, concerning the history of the university. Also included are two duplicate series that are collections of verse and prose observations on numerous topics, intended for circulation. A miscellaneous file includes notices and photographs relating to Professor Thomas’ Mark Twain programs.

Biographical / Historical
Joe D. Thomas was a member of the Rice University English faculty from 1930 to 1977. He also served as assistant registrar and held other positions at the university. In addition, Thomas was editor of the 1964 “Self Study” and historian of the College English Association.
