The boxed 5x8 slips (Jefferson Davis items) and the 3x5 slips in the card catalog (Varina Davis) are arranged chronologically and are the resources most read and copied by researchers, who use them as a guide to the document files and microfilm.

Scope and Contents From the Sub-Series: The sketch index includes major family properties described in the edition. Occasionally, the published sketches are updated with later information–see marginalia in office copy of the edition. This index is useful for convenience, whether in electronic or printed format.
