Permission to publish material from the KLC HipHop Collection must be obtained from the Woodson Research Center, Fondren Library. The Woodson Research Center use policy is that researchers assume sole responsibility for any infringement of privacy, literary rights, copyrights, or other rights arising from their use of the archival materials. In addition to any restrictions placed by donors, certain kinds of archival materials are restricted for the life of the creator plus 50 years. These materials include, but are not limited to, student grades, transcripts, and any job applications or recommendations.

Biographical / Historical

Craig Stephen Lawson (aka KLC) was born July 15, 1969, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Lawson grew up in New Orleans where he began his career as a hip hop DJ, producer, and drummer. Following high school, he and his friend, Dartanian Stovall, founded Parkway Pumpin' Records. Lawson later worked with No Limits Records, which was founded by Percy Miller (Master P). In 2021, Lawson created E3, aka Empress Empire, a label "for women, by women."

Lawson has recorded, performed on, and produced hundreds of tracks with various artists over the years, including Mystikal, Sporty T., and Soulija Slim, and he has received two Grammy nominations for his work.
