Dorothy Fraifeld Jenkins Collection

Dorothy Fraifeld Jenkins was born in Rhineland, Germany in a hospital in 1930. She moved to Peru in 1937. She was second cousins with Anne Frank. Her mother, Irene Hollander Kronheim (first husband) Holzer (second husband), was first cousins with Edith Hollander, Anne Frank's mother. Dorothy Fraifeld Jenkins moved to Peru when she was 7 years old with her mother. They took a ship through the Panama Canal that took a month, leaving in February and arriving in March. Her uncle lived in Peru and was able to get them visas to come. Dorothy Fraifeld Jenkins's older sister stayed in the Netherlands with the Frank family for a few months in 1937 until she came with her grandmother to Peru to be reunited with her family. Fraifeld Jenkins's parents were married in 1923 but divorced before they left for Peru. Her mother met her next husband at the docks in Peru when they arrived. He was a friend of her brother. Fraifeld Jenkins grew up in Miraflores near Lima. She married Luis Fraifeld and had two sons. Her husband's family is from Romania and went to Brazil. Luis Fraifeld was born in 1925 in Peru. Fraifeld Jenkins was widowed when her boys were just 4 and 6 years old. Four years after the death of her husband, she moved to Miami with her sons. Fraifeld Jenkins quickly moved to Houston because her older sister lived in Galveston with her husband. Her sister passed away from cancer in April 1971. She remarried in 2000. Fraifeld Jenkins has been a member of Beth Yeshurun since 1972.
