Biographical / Historical
Rauch family history:
Max and Annie Rauch were the great-grandparents of Linda Rauch Susman and the parents of Morris Rauch. They were immigrants from Austria who lived in Galveston, where on October 28th 1895 Morris Rauch was born. He died at the age of 64 in 1959.
He married Bertie Leder Rauch (born in Russia, and grew up in Wharton, Texas) whom he met through mutual friends in California. Morris and his brother Meyer had a fruit-selling business in Humble, Texas. Later he had his own scrap metal and pipe supply business which led to strong connections in the oil field supply industry.
Bertie and Morris had a son - Gerald Rauch.
Gerald met his future wife Lila Levey when they were both teenagers (17 and 16 years old) during one of the family visits to California. They dated for 4 years until they got married in 1945. Gerald went to USC for a year and then enlisted in the U.S. Army and stayed in service until after the end of WWII.
Gerald and Lila had a daughter - Linda Rauch (future Rauch Susman), born in 1948. She grew up in Riverside. Her grandfather Morris passed away when she was 11, but she still remembers him. Both her parents and grandparents were close friends with the Feld family. They are now related by blood and marriage (between Linda’s niece Emily and Genie Feld’s son Brent). Gerald Rauch passed away on October 22, 2008. Lila Rauch passed away in 2023.
