Conditions Governing Use

Permission to publish material from the Carolyn Adams Publication Collection must be obtained from the Woodson Research Center, Fondren Library.

The Woodson Research Center use policy is that researchers assume sole responsibility for any infringement of privacy, literary rights, copyrights, or other rights arising from their use of the archival materials. In addition to any restrictions placed by donors, certain kinds of archival materials are restricted for the life of the creator plus 50 years. These materials include, but are not limited to, student grades, transcripts, and any job applications or recommendations.

Biographical / Historical

Carolyn Adams was active in the art and literary communities of Houston, Austin, and other parts of Texas for many years, before relocating to Oregon in 2017. In 2013, she was a finalist for Houston Poet Laureate. She received her undergraduate degree in Humanities from the University of Houston in 2016.

Her poetry, collage art, and photography have appeared in numerous journals and anthologies, such as Southern Poetry Anthology, Beatnik Cowboy, Willawaw Journal, Topology, San Pedro River Review, Kestrel, Hawaii Pacific Review, Common Ground Review, Main Street Rag, Caveat Lector, Kansas City Voices, and Aperçus Quarterly, among others. She has assisted in editing and publishing the poetry journals Curbside Review, Ardent, Lily Literary Review, and Mad Hatters Review, and has been a judge in contests and competitions. Her published chapbooks are Beautiful Strangers (2006, Lily Press), What Do you See? (2007, Right Hand Pointing), An Ocean of Names (2011, Red Shoe Press), and The Things You’ve Left Behind (2014, Red Shoe Press). She has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and for Best of the Net, and was a finalist for the post of 2013 Houston Poet Laureate.
