Biographical / Historical
After attending college at the University of Texas at Austin, Mickey White arrived in Houston in 1970. He had begun performing as a folk singer while in Austin, but his move to Houston was when he kicked off his music career.
After honing his guitar and performance skills in Houston, he moved to Nashville. Soon afterward, he toured nationally with Mickey Clark. By 1974, he became Townes Van Zandt's guitarist, which he continued to do until 1989. From the mid-1970s to the early 1980s, he also played in the Hemmer Ridge Mountain Boys, which he formed with Rex Bell.
In 1996, Mickey White began a second career as a high school History teacher and retired in 2018. He continues to play music in and around Austin, TX.
