27. Texas and local history

On his 1835 trip from Georgia to Texas, Mirabeau Buonaparte Lamar kept a manuscript diary. The journal is written in continuous narrative form, with frequent historical or descriptive passages inserted, covering the months June-October, 1835, the period during which Lamar apparently made his decision to settle in Texas permanently and join in the Texian battle for independence from Mexico.

This letter (10 January 1890) from Moses Austin Bryan letter to Col. W.W. Fontaine is in response to a series of questions concerning the revolutionary period in Texas history.

This collection contains legal documents, correspondence, and memoranda/research notes compiled by J.W. Parker, a lawyer from Taylor, Texas. The documents relate to the case of Charles W. Avery vs. Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railway Co., a case in which Parker represented Avery.

The John Campbell papers comprise two boxes of documents and one of letters.

The papers and miscellaneous material of the Reinermann, Sandman and Bethje families, German immigrants in Harris County, Texas.

The collection visually documents Ella Fondren's family members and homes, and describes her lifelong philanthropic efforts toward higher education and health care in the Houston area.

This collection of play programs and related printed publications was created and maintained mainly by John Blodgett Davis and reflects the Houston, Texas theater scene primarily in the 1950s and 1960s.

Letters from Alexander MacDonald to his wife, Margaret MacDonald, including information concerning land disputes and importation of goods to Texas; letters from James MacDonald, serving with a Texas regiment during the Civil War, to his mother, Margaret MacDonald; letters of condolence to Margaret MacDonald after James's death during the war; letters from other family members; wills; maps; and documents.

This collection contains two documents, both written in German: one a marriage certificate, dated 1830, of Johann Heinrich Dreyer (Dreier) to Johanne Dorothee Evers; the second a passport for the Dreier family from Braunschweig, Germany to Texas (1846). An English translation of both documents is also included.

The Hobbs diary records his experiences as a volunteer recruit in New England, his participation in the Battle of Galveston, and his life as a prisoner in Houston, 1862-1863.
