27. Texas and local history

The John Campbell papers comprise two boxes of documents and one of letters.

The papers and miscellaneous material of the Reinermann, Sandman and Bethje families, German immigrants in Harris County, Texas.

The collection visually documents Ella Fondren's family members and homes, and describes her lifelong philanthropic efforts toward higher education and health care in the Houston area.

This collection of play programs and related printed publications was created and maintained mainly by John Blodgett Davis and reflects the Houston, Texas theater scene primarily in the 1950s and 1960s.

Letters from Alexander MacDonald to his wife, Margaret MacDonald, including information concerning land disputes and importation of goods to Texas; letters from James MacDonald, serving with a Texas regiment during the Civil War, to his mother, Margaret MacDonald; letters of condolence to Margaret MacDonald after James's death during the war; letters from other family members; wills; maps; and documents.

This collection includes papers relating to the development of the Broadacres subdivision (1923-1926) and the Milroy Place Addition (1924) in Houston, TX. The collection includes various documents such as: legal agreements, newspaper clippings, legal notices, plats, blueprints, and many letters of correspondence.

The papers of Frankie Carter Randolph (1894-1972), longtime leader of Texas liberal Democrats, include correspondence, documents, newsclippings, photographs, oral history interviews and other materials that chronicle her political activism in Texas during the 1950s and 1960s. Issues include the Poll Tax, labor law, African Americans, and social programs.

The collection consists of the membership documents, organizational documents and memorabilia of the Woman's Building of Houston, an organization founded in 1925 that was devoted to the creation of a building that would serve as a cultural and social center for Houston women. After over twenty-five turbulent years of fundraising and patience, the organization saw success when Milford House officially opened in 1953.

The Fondren Papers provide a record of the Fondren family's acquisition and dispersal of money in Houston and across Texas during the first three-quarters of this century and offers additional information on the financial workings of several well-known institutions and corporations. Formats include correspondence and financial documents.

This collection consists of the personal and family papers of Houstonian Ruth Carter Slack, including diaries, correspondence, personal travel memorabilia, and memorabilia from her personal life, such as inventories, lists and address books. Also in the collection are her photo collections, hospital records, course notes, and documentation of the Carter and Slack family history.
