11. Jewish community

The collection consists of seven boxes containing immigration materials, correspondence, marriage records, directories, programs, newsletters, news clippings, photographs, scrapbooks, video, and memorabilia spanning the years 1896 to 2008.

The Sklar Family papers contain photographs and certificates relevant to the Sklar family, such as Fred Sklar’s confirmation certificate and bar mitzvah materials. The papers offer a look at institutions such as the B’nai B’rith Youth Organization and Congregation Beth Jacob, and the ceremonies that tie families and communities together.

The Meyerland Minyan collection is made up of five anniversary programs which contain historical details of the Minyan community at different points in time.

The Young Israel Houston collection is made up of seven anniversary programs which contain historical details of the Jewish community at different points in time.

The AMIT collection is made up of six membership directories, each containing a brief history and statement of purpose, officer list, membership list, and advertisements from local businesses put out annually by the Pearl Schwartz-Houston Chapter of the leading education network across all measurements in Israel, Americans for Israel and Torah.

The American Associates Ben-Gurion University of the Negev programs offer unique insight into the global connections of Jewish culture and tradition with their extension of the Israeli university community into the Greater Texas Region, acknowledgement of influential figures, and exploration of kosher food.

The Congregation Beth Jacob, Galveston [TX] records is made up of letters, invitations, programs, bulletins, directories, legal documents, and a DVD recording the history of this small, vibrant congregation on Texas’ southern coast. Formed from two smaller communities--Russian and Austro-Hungarian--the congregation has a rich history of tradition.

The collection includes correspondence, certificates, invitations, photographs, booklets, memorabilia and realia that documents Betsy Schreiber's family from 1897 to 1996.

The collection contains correspondence, certificates, event materials, speeches and sermons, news clippings, newsletters, conference materials, photographs, a book draft and educational materials catalog, reports, and organizational materials that document Shirley Barish's time as an educator at Congregation Emanu El Religious School and as a youth group advisor for the Congregation's Temple youth groups.

The collection contains news clippings, newsletters, event programs, photographs, and slides that document a small part of Ellen and Dan Trachtenberg's activism to improve conditions for Soviet Jews.
