25. Social and political sciences

Research materials compiled by Dr. Keith Hamm, Edwards Professor in the Rice University Dept. of Political Science, dealing with development of specialization in U.S. state legislatures during the 20th century, policymaking, committee voting, interest groups, campaign finance, state laws, and reports.

This collection consists of research materials compiled by William Martin, Rice University professor of sociology, during the course of his research on the Christian religious right in the United States, as well as fundamentalists, fundamentalist education, evangelists such as Billy Graham, and other aspects of conservative Christian organizations. The materials consists of correspondence, notes, videos, transcriptions of video interviews, pamphlets, and books.

These papers include research files, course materials, selected student papers, and documents related to the daily and annual business of the sociology department, including financial reports, departmental memos, faculty evaluations, and correspondence. In addition there are drafts, typescripts, and published articles written by Elizabeth Long.

This collection contains the administrative files, meeting minutes and records, publications, audio/visual (DVDs) presentations, and reports for the Rice University Shell Center for Sustainability.

Correspondence documents the affairs of the Department of Political Science at Rice University between 1964 and 1967.

The Shirley Wetzel archaeology notes on Nottingham include both primary sources from Wetzel’s work on the 1890 Nottingham Lace Factory site, sources used in identifying archaeological finds, press surrounding the discoveries she made, and materials from her presentation of the work in 2007, such as maps and powerpoint slides.

This collection includes annual reports (2001-2005), deans’ strategic plans (2006-2007), external reviews (2008-2013) of the Departments of Political Science, Sociology, Economics, Anthropology, and Psychology, department records (1993-2007), and personnel files (restricted).

These records consist of materials related to the administration of The Kinder Institute for Urban Research.
