The Southern Association for Women Historians presents an annual meeting known as the Southern Conference of Women’s History. These annual conference records are predominantly from the conference held at Rice University in Houston, Texas from June 2-5, 1994. Records include planning documents, correspondence, surveys and realia that date from 1989-1997.

The collection contains records and printed material on the early land holdings and dealings of William Marsh Rice and the Rice Institute in 45 Texas counties and 4 Louisiana parishes. The collection also contains records and printed material concerning early Rice Institute campus construction, legal matters (including judicial settlements and statements), institutional housekeeping (including receipts and invoices from 1891-1907), and campus area property and construction.

Abstract This collection consists of Rice Hotel (Houston, Tex.) memorabilia and includes menus, drink lists, advertising material, and stationery. Included are a 1913 dinner plate, china and silverplate. In 1886 William Marsh Rice bought the old Capitol Hotel, built in 1882, for unpaid taxes. Rice University obtained the hotel as a bequest from its owner and renamed it the Rice Hotel. Jesse H. The collection consists of the constitution, meeting announcements, calendars, directories, and newsletters of the Rice University Business and Professional Women for the years 1986 through 1995. It was created by Nancy Boothe, an archivist at Fondren Library, during the years when she was a member of the organization.
