Arthur E. Hall (1901-1978), one time Chairman of Rice University's Shepherd School of Music (1953-1973), is known as a composer of orchestral, choral and chamber ensemble music. His papers include correspondence, original compositions, arrangements, settings, and harmonizations by Hall, as well as audio recordings of his performances and materials from the Charles Ives family.

Abstract: Thirteen individual leaves of rare 15th and 16th century original music manuscripts depicting portions Catholic masses and prayers in Latin, hand drawn and beautifully illustrated with brilliant tempera paints on large vellum sheets. This collection consists primarily of musical scores composed by two twentieth-century residents of Houston, Texas, Frantz H. Brogniez and John R. Cardone. There are eleven short pieces by Brogniez and eight by Cardone, five of them written to accompany the seventeenth-century masque Comus by John Milton.
