22. Rice University faculty and administrative records

The bulk of these records relate to Akers’ administrative roles at Rice University, particularly as Vice President for Administration. Correspondence, memos, articles, newsclippings reflect his interests both as university administrator and as professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering.

This collection contains records numerous relating to all aspects of Fondren Library between 1940 and present, including information regarding a variety of committees and events, correspondences, budgets, meeting minutes, and staff administration.

Memoranda, correspondence and reports of the Committee on Affirmative Action. The committee was organized in 1970 to review progress in equal employmnt opportunities and to monitor progress in equal employment opportunities and to monitor progress towards the University's goals for new hire. The papers are arranged chronoloically; later years (1976-) consist primarily of letters of appointment to the commitee and replies to those letters.

Collection includes information from the Rice University Committee on Applied Mathematics and Systems Research. It includes minutes and memoranda, information on laboratory facilities, employment records, National Science Foundation grant reports, budget and financial issues, and an assessment of a computer program.

The minutes, reports, memoranda and correspondence generated by the Committee on Campus Safety and by its predecessor, the Committee on Disasters and Emergencies. The collection is arranged chronologically.

This collection contains correspondence, research, reports, and publications, administrative materials, course notes and handouts, and personal items of Alan Chapman, the Harry S. Cameron Professor Emeritus of Mechanical Engineering at Rice University.

Rice University News and Media Relations has also been known in the past as News and Publications. This office creates and manages news releases on behalf of the university. The photo and biographical files in this collection were created and manitained by that office for use in such news releases.

An assortment of prints, photographs, negatives, and negative slides concerning the Rice University campus, student life, sports, professors, the President's House [O’Connor House], the Baker Institute, commencements, and other university events. Most of these photographs were taken by Campus Photographers Thomas LaVergne, Philip Channing, and Jeff Fitlow.

The Chandler Davidson Academic papers collection includes course materials, selected student papers, information on minorities at Rice, Athletic Committee materials, and other publications, clippings, letters, and materials relating to Rice received from Research Professor and Tsanoff Chair of Public Affairs Emeritus Davidson.
