Copy of letter from Mary Lovett to Ruth Baker, July 1, 1924
Scope and Contents
Letters received by Anne Wheeler, secretary to the first President of Rice Institute and a travel diary presumed to be written by her. Diary entries span June 10, 1949-August 21, 1949 and are written in a first person point of view about a sight-seeing trip to Europe with a friend. Entries contain numerous anecdotes, stories, and comments on local buildings and history. The main locales visited are Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo, England and Scotland. Noteworthy are the descriptions and comments about Post-World War II Europe.
Included is a condensed version containing a hotel/restaurant list from various European cities with a terse critique and a list of English expressions.
There are two letters received by Anne Wheeler. The first is undated, though probably written around 1953, from Lorraine Gresham. The second is a copy of a letter written by Mary Lovett to Ruth Baker, dated July 1, 1924, before her departure to France. Apparently, the letter was sent to Wheeler when she was about to travel to the country.
