This collection contains a t-shirt, two photographs, and a uniform patch all carried into space aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery, STS-51 from September 12-22, 1993. James (Jim) Newman earned his Masters and PhD from Rice and afterwards went to work at NASA, where he flew several space missions. The photographs feature Dr. Newman wearing the shirt in space.

The Cohen House Records collection consists of financial statements, bills, building specifications, donation and contribution records, and guest records for the Cohen House faculty club between 1920 and 1970. Also included in the collection are records of equipment and furnishings transactions, original pieces of china used in Cohen House, correspondence between George S. Cohen and various departments and people at Rice University, news clippings, scrapbooks, and photographs.

Following his death in 1971 and Esther's in 1978, the service was auctioned and purchased by the donors.
