Scope and Contents

This collection contains the original manuscript (including corrections, revisions, and pencil notes) of "A Kaleidoscope of Rome," Crawford's first article on Rome. The essay is a descriptive narrative of Rome, its people, its history, etc. Portions of the essay were later included in Crawford's work, Ave Roma Immortalis. The manuscript consists of 50 leaves mounted on a full maroon calf folio binding.

Biographical / Historical

Francis Marion Crawford (1854-1909) was a prolific novelist as well as a historian, having written more than 40 novels (plus other material) in 25 years. He was the youngest of the four children of Thomas Crawford, an American sculptor and long-time resident of Italy.
