20. Rice University faculty and administrative records

The memoranda, reports, proposals and correspondence generated by or for the Rice University Committee on Undergraduate Teaching.

The collection consists of the notes, correspondence, and minutes of the Committee on University Welfare, formed in 1961. It served as a grievance committee until 1971 when the committee disbanded and its functions were taken over by the newly organized Faculty Council and the University Council.

The Friends of Fondren Library Records contain meeting minutes, correspondence, membership information, printed invitations, newsclippings, lectures, budgets, photographs, typescripts, notes, and pamphlets regarding business and events held by the Friends from 1950 to 2021.

Records pertaining to the Rice University Admissions Committee between 1946 and 1988. Includes admission forms, minutes, memos, reports, and correspondence.

The Provost is the chief academic officer of the University. The mission of the Provost’s Office is to promote and support excellence in all dimensions of the University's academic, research, scholarly and creative programs and activities. These records reflect the daily business of the Office of the Provost during the tenure of David Auston. Types of records include Alphabetical files, Department files, Off-Campus files and Budget files.

The collection consists of both published and unpublished records of projects undertaken by the Rice Center for Community Design + Research, subsequently the Rice Center. It also includes records of two projects of the University of Louisville which served as precursors to much of the early research completed at the Rice Center.

These records were generated by the Office of the VP for Enrollment from 1993 to 2005. The office oversees the Office of Admissions, Enrollment Operations and Student Financial Services. The record types include statistics, policies and procedures, planning and management studies, and general information.

The collection consists of materials gathered by Michael Hammond in pursuit of his varied academic interests in early music, acoustics, neuroscience, and the relationship of neuroscience and music. It includes the text of his keynote address in 1999 for the International Symposium on the Neuroscience of Music in Niigata, Japan.

In 1997, Rice University began a national search for a new dean for the Wiess School of Natural Sciences. This collection contains records related to that search, including lists of committee members, lists of candidates, correspondence, university news releases and other related records, such as the 1997 strategic plan for the Wiess School of Natural Sciences.

This collection contains records regarding the travels, expenses, and applications created by the Associate Provost between 1997 and 2004. These include information on travels of the Associate Provost and members of the Office, records of travel and other expenses, and applications to Rice's Institute for Recruitment of Teachers (IRT).
