Rice University News and Media Relations has also been known in the past as News and Publications. This office creates and manages news releases on behalf of the university. The photo and biographical files in this collection were created and manitained by that office for use in such news releases.

Rice University Provost George L. McClendon Faculty Retirement Committee records
The collection consists of information gathered from thirty universities about retirement plans, records of meetings of the Rice Faculty Senate Working Group on Retirement Planning, and other materials about retirement planning. The Working Group’s final report is also included.

Rice University Studies editorial review board records
The collection consists of correspondence which concerns primarily the names of faculty members appointed annually by the President to serve on the Rice University Studies Review Board, which in the 1960s had been called the Rice University Studies Committee. In 1982 the Rice University Studies Review Board was renamed the Rice University Press Committee. Names of members of this committee for 1982-83, 1983-84, and 1985-86 are also included.
Rice University Welfare Committee records
The collection consists of the notes, correspondence, and minutes of the Committee on University Welfare, formed in 1961. It served as a grievance committee until 1971 when the committee disbanded and its functions were taken over by the newly organized Faculty Council and the University Council.

Photographic prints, glass plate negatives and other equipment and supplies related to professional portraiture by Vera Prasilova Scott, mainly dating from 1926-1937 during her time in Houston close to the Rice Institute. Houston and Rice University-related subjects include the Lovett, Baker, Blaffer, Cullinan, Wiess, Hutcheson, Autrey and Sharp families.
William Ward Watkin papers
The papers detail the academic and architectural career of William Ward Watkin. Included in the collection are personal information, business correspondence, construction photographs and architectural drawings of the early Rice Institute, and drawings of projects from his private architectural career.
