The collection consists of a scrapbook of newspaper clippings by and about J.S. Mosby, a Confederate soldier, that detail his adventures in the Confederate cavalry. Also included are unfavorable clippings from local newspapers on the occasion of his visit to New England in 1886.

John William Hutcheson papers

Abstract

The John W. Hutcheson papers include correspondence to and from Texas attorney and soldier Hutcheson before and during the U.S. Civil War, a text of a speech on immigration (1852), documents relating to the Masonic Order, a license to practice law in Texas, and several newspaper issues (1862, 1863, 1898, 1903) describing Hutcheson's life and his military career with the 4th Texas Regiment.

Libby Prison Inmate Letter

Letter written during the Civil War by an anonymous Union Army prisoner- of-war, dated December18, 1864, and addressed from Libby Prison in Richmond, Virginia, to United States Senator William Wright of New Jersey, describing his worsening health while held in close confinement in the prison as hostage for a Confederate officer imprisoned in West Virginia, and urging the senator to intercede on his behalf to secure his exchange and release.

Miller Family letters

Abstract The collection includes 11 letters writtten by James Miller, A Company, 63rd Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers to his brother, Samuel, in Williamsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The letters, written between Ocotober 6, 1861 and March 11, 1864, offer a good account of daily camp life. Also included are five letters from Robert Miller to Samuel Miler and one letter from Bell Miller to Samuel Miller.
