The records reflect the activities of the Rice University Commission on Women (RUCOW). The collection spans almost 20 years and consists of materials associated with the Commission's work including task force reports that summarize the state of women's affairs at Rice (benefits, salary, promotion, child care, campus climate and visibility), surveys, memoranda, campus controversies, internal correspondence, and a collection of scholarly articles concerned with women's issues in academia.
Rice University Dean of Continuing Education records
The Dean of Continuing Education Records contain materials related to the Dean of Continuing Education, specifically Mary McIntire. These records consist of financial statements, blueprints, images, proposals, correspondence, student publications, pamphlets, and surveys. The records begin in 1987 and continue through 2001, with the bulk of the information starting in the early 1990s.

Rice University Margarett Root Brown College Records
Correspondence, newsclippings, obituaries, minutes, freshman materials, publications, governmental and budget documents as well as other information relating to the general operation of Brown College. There are also files on the Brown students such as lists of members and room assignments. Brown College was dedicated on October 3, 1965 and was filled primarily by women who had volunteered to leave Jones College, then the only women's college, to start a new college.

Rice University News and Media Relations has also been known in the past as News and Publications. This office creates and manages news releases on behalf of the university. The photo and biographical files in this collection were created and manitained by that office for use in such news releases.
Rice University Professional and Business Women records
The collection consists of the constitution, meeting announcements, calendars, directories, and newsletters of the Rice University Business and Professional Women for the years 1986 through 1995. It was created by Nancy Boothe, an archivist at Fondren Library, during the years when she was a member of the organization.
