Correspondents writing to the Ms. Horners include Ellen Kean, F. Maurice, Harriet Hosmer, C.P. Marsh, E. Ryan, H.H. Hilman, Sir James Hudson, Rose Kingsley, Sir H.E. Bunbury, Francis Cobbe, and Sir James Clark. The letters deal with Walks in Florence, Italian affairs, and refer to Eastlake, the Lyells, Royalties, Froude and more. Included is one letter to Leonard Horner from Lord Landsdowne.

This collection contains a series of typed letters (1981-1982) from Professor Thomas, a member of the Rice University English faculty, to Nancy Boothe, Director of the Woodson Research Center, concerning the history of the university. Also included are two duplicate series that are collections of verse and prose observations on numerous topics, intended for circulation. A miscellaneous file includes notices and photographs relating to Professor Thomas’ Mark Twain programs.

John Brown Letter

This collection contains a letter written by John Brown to his wife. It was written from Grigsby’s Bluff and gives news of the people there, in particular, their health. Grigsby’s Bluff was located on the Neches River in Eastern Jefferson County. Its name was changed to Port Neches in 1901.

John C. Crosby U.S. Civil War diary

Abstract

A leather-bound hand-written diary kept by John C. Crosby, first from 1861 to 1862 during the United States Civil War while Crosby served in the Seventh Maine Regiment of the Union army (probably as a hospital orderly), recording daily activities in tending the sick while moving about on campaign; then, from 1865 to 1868 after Crosby’s return to civilian life, recording his activities and personal finances as a hired farm worker.
