Dr. William H. Masterson Controversy records

Oral history interviews (tapes, cd's, transcripts), news releases, photographs, color slides, publications, campus directories, and student papers dating primarily from 1969 and relating to the five-day controversy which arose on the campus of Rice University in February 1969 following the appointment of Dr. William H. Masterson as President of the university. The 69 interviewees include faculty, staff, residential college masters and leaders, and students of Rice University.

Series I consists of background materials including news releases, photos and slides, publications, campus directories, student papers concerning the Masterson crisis and other pertinent university documents.

Series II includes material on interviewee selection, correspondence, transcripts, and original 1969 reel-to-reel audiotapes and year 2003 preservation cd’s of the interviews.

Arranged in alphabetical order by the interviewee's last name, and indicating the presence of a full transcript or simply an abstract of the interview. Also noted is the original 1969 reel-to-reel tape # and the quantity of preservation copies in cd format for each interview.
