Biographical / Historical
While preparing for the 1991 Rice charter centennial, a group of students put forth the idea of contributing a project recording the history of student life to the celebrations. This was carried out through a course during the 1989-90 academic year in which students conducted interviews with current Rice students, faculty and alumni about various topics related to student life and university history. The students then used the information gathered from the interviews to compile The History of Student Life at Rice University, a compilation of papers focused on various student activities and traditions, as well as the history of the residential college system. This work was published by Rice University as a book by the same title in 1990. Patricia Martin was the project director.
