Permission to publish from the "A Georgia Soldier in the Civil War, 1861 to 1865" manuscript must be obtained by the Woodson Research Center.

The Woodson Research Center use policy is that researchers assume sole responsibility for any infringement of privacy, literary rights, copyrights, or other rights arising from their use of the archival materials. In addition to any restrictions placed by donors, certain kinds of archival materials are restricted for the life of the creator plus 50 years. These materials include, but are not limited to, student grades, transcripts, and any job applications or recommendations.

Biographical / Historical

Robert Duncan Chapman (1839-1934) was born in Houston County, Georgia. He went on to serve in the U.S. Civil War fighting for the Confederacy. After the war, he relocated to Texas. As of 1928, he ran the Texas division of the United Confederate Veterans. He also worked as a bailiff for the Harris County grand jury.

In 1929, he finished his manuscript detailing his time during the civil war. It was printed by Harry G. Wood, Houston, TX.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

This was donated by Robert Duncan Chapman's surviving children, Martha Caroline Chapman Desel and Lollie Dee Chapman King in April 1951. It was originally cataloged, but was moved to Special Collections in 2025.
