27. Texas and local history

Land deeds and agreements relating to the tract of land in Harris County granted to John Reinermann, dating from 1857-1888.

This collection consists of architectural drawings done by Ruth Y. McGonigle during her private practice in Brownsville, TX. She designed mostly residential houses with the exception of a few public buildings.

A letter from Howard Hughes to William A. Kirkland, Board of Trustees, Rice Institute, Dec. 26, 1950, expressing his gratitute for a tribute to engineer Lewis Garfield published by Rice Institute.

Newspapers, clippings, personal correspondence, and photographs relating to the political life and professional life of Rienzi Melville Johnston, co-founder of the Houston Post and Texas and U.S. Senator.

The collection consists of certificates, diplomas, correspondence, and an album of large color photographs. Also included are several framed certificates of recognition and a proclamation honoring Judge Yates.

This collection contains three letters: two from Governor James Allred of Texas to Emil Hurja of the Democratic National Committee in Washington D.C. (1935-36), and one from Gov. Lawrence Sullivan Ross of Texas to General M. Cist of Cincinnati, Ohio (1889). Subjects include thanks for gifts sent and requests for reading materials, and do not relate specifically to Texas politics.

This collection consists of correspondence, design documents, planting lists, and photographs that cover the history of the gardens designed for J. Robert Neal in Houston from the initial contact of the Olmsted firm to inquiries by the present owners of the property concerning restoration.

Ann Holmes personal papers encompass materials outside the scope of her research on her book for Houston's cultural arts. Included are materials from her everyday life--correspondence, awards and honors, social activities, and copies of her articles, columns and reviews.

This collection contains two letters, one an invitation from Fletcher (then President of the Bell County Historical Society) to S. Walker (one-time city editor of the New York Herald-Tribune) to a Historical Society meeting; the other a rather humorous response from Walker.

This collection consists of a series of letters and a map annotated by Mr. Atwood concerning his archaeological findings in the Galveston Bay area.
