Deutsches Notgeld currency album
This album of emergency paper currency measures 14-5/8”x11-5/8”x1-7/8” album with the printed title “Notgeld 1914-1924.” It contains approximately 640 separate pieces of the paper currency (Notgeld) issued by regional institutions in Germany and Austria-Hungary, primarily around the end of the World War I. Not issued by a central bank, Notgeld was not legal tender but rather an accepted means of payment in a particular locale.
Floyd S. Edmiston World War I clothing and equipment collection
This collection consists of materials relating to the uniform and personal equipment of a soldier of the U.S. Army in World War I. In addition there are maps of the areas of operations and an artillery barrage chart for the Reymonville area, 1 November 1918.
Sheelah Green-Wilkinson World War I scrapbook album
This collection consists of an album that contains 48 items from World War I, mainly Christmas cards issued by regiments. Also included are a few postcards, a German shoulder-strap, and a leaf of laurel.
Hugh R. McKean Rice Institute memoir
This collection contains the autobiographical memoir of Hugh R. McKean, Rice Alumnus, class of 1922. The memoirs cover the early 20th century (through 1922) and for the most part describe the life of a farmer’s family in South Texas. A fair amount of the memoirs concern his years as a student, letterman, and Hohenthal Award winner at the Rice Institute. In addition, the memoirs provide McKean’s observations about events in Houston during the WWI era.
