Photocopies of 49 letters to Morrison Gunn from members of his family and various friends. For the most part they are personal, but also include information on the conditions faced by immigrant farmers and the problems of establishing a home.

The collection consists of a scrapbook of newspaper clippings by and about J.S. Mosby, a Confederate soldier, that detail his adventures in the Confederate cavalry. Also included are unfavorable clippings from local newspapers on the occasion of his visit to New England in 1886.

The Broun Family U.S. Civil War papers provide genealogical and historical information on the Broun and Thruston families and also describe the Broun family's experiences during the U.S. Civil War in the Shenandoah Valley, Virginia. Some items are photocopies of originals still in possession of the Broun family.

Two journals kept by Samuel Storrow during the U.S. Civil War, the first while Storrow served as a corporal in the Massachusetts Volunteer Militia, 44th Regiment (September 20, 1862-June 18, 1863), and the second while serving in the Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, 2nd Regiment (September 1864- March 1865), during which time he was promoted to first lieutenant; in his entries Storrow describes movements of equipment and troops, camp life, weather, and military actions.

This collection contains the business ledger of the firm of Allen and Morris, showing transactions for services and sundries with various persons and companies, including the Confederate States of America. The firm was located in Prattville, Alabama, and the ledger’s entries date from June 27, 1862 to November 15, 1864.

Photocopies of letters written by Union soldier Corporal James K. Lovejoy to his wife while stationed in Louisiana, 1863-1864.

Letters, diaries, scrapbooks, and notebooks belonging to various members of the Elliott family, dating from 1830-1951. The majority of the collection's letters are from the early 20th-century, though some date from the U.S. Civil War (describing life in Mississippi). Other materials describe farm life in Kansas, railroad business, attendance at Rice Institute, and the family life of the Elliotts.

The collection, consisting of photocopies of letters, genealogies, military documents, newspaper clippings, and modern reproductions of family photographs, pertains to the Texas families of Alexander May Shannon and William B. Scott, Shannon's father in-law. Highlights of the collection are a number of letters written by Shannon and Scott regarding U.S. Civil War battles (including the battle at Galveston) and daily life and living conditions in the army.

Records of the Rhode Island Artillery, 5th Regiment, Company G., dated 1863-1865, including general orders, correspondence, invoices of clothing and other equipment, quartermaster store receipts, and muster rolls. Also includes papers related to the career of Capt. John H. Robinson, dating 1861-1880.

The papers consist primarily of 14 letters, mainly between Texas physician Thomas Wooten and Henrietta Goodall, prior to their marriage. Also included are several notes, envelopes, lists, and two photographs. Dates range from 1849-1898.
