Abstract

The Chabad of Houston collection contains materials related to the institution’s many programs, its history, and especially the galas and events celebrating the impact the Chabad has had on the Houston Jewish community.

The collection consists of one box of correspondence to members of the Kristal family from 1921 to 1925, including two wedding invitations, and one news clipping. The majority of the correspondence is in Yiddish and much of it is from relatives in the Poland.

The Yellen Family papers are comprised of photographs and memorabilia related to Milton Yellen’s time practicing dentistry in New Guinea for the army during World War II, and photographs and newsclippings of his wife Florence Kless Yellen throughout her life. The collection also contains religious and army certificates, publications, and correspondence depicting the Yellen family’s connections to the Jewish community.

The Tania Brown Family Papers feature the wartime record of Frank Brown, shown through correspondence and documents, and Rachel Mayer Brown’s involvement in the Texas Southern Region’s Hadassah Organization through a photo album memorializing her experiences and connections to the larger Jewish Community.

Abstract The collection consists of one box containing a scrapbook of, primarily, Morton Levy's architectural drawings of the proposed renovation to Congregation Brith Shalom's interior, correspondence, newsclippings, and photographs of the congregation's interior from 1986-1996. In addition to the drawings in the scrapbook there are ten prints from Levy's portfolio (1997) of a number of synagogues that he worked on. The materials showcase the events held by the synagogue and their wide-reaching impact on the Houston Jewish Community.
