Waggaman Family collection

Abstract

The Camille Waggaman/Waggaman Family Collection consists largely of photographs and newspaper articles but also includes some personal correspondence and memorabilia. The bulk of the material regards Camille Waggaman and focuses upon her radio career (1932-1963) and upon the years after her retirement. Regional or local historians may find these of interest since the Waggamans were among the most prominent plantation families of Louisiana.

Ray Watkin Strange Research Materials for "William Ward Watkin and the Rice Institute"

Abstract

This material covers the architectural career of the Ms. Strange's father, William Ward Watkin, including his private architecture practice and well as his relationship with Rice Institute as Supervising Architect, touching briefly on his personal life. The material was gathered by Ms. Strange and much of it served as research for the book: William Ward Watkin and The Rice Institute by Patrick James Nicholson (published 1991 by Gulf Pub. Co.).

This collection consists of research materials compiled by William Martin, Rice University professor of sociology, during the course of his research on the Christian religious right in the United States, as well as fundamentalists, fundamentalist education, evangelists such as Billy Graham, and other aspects of conservative Christian organizations. The materials consists of correspondence, notes, videos, transcriptions of video interviews, pamphlets, and books.

Carl Wischmeyer Personal Papers

The collection consists primarily of personal letters belonging to Carl R. Wischmeyer, amny of them exchanged between Wischmeyer and his wife Mary. There is also information about his career as a professor of electrical engineering at Rice University. This includes documents relating to patents acquired as well as an article written for the Texas Engineer.

George Cohen family silver collection

Abstract

This collection includes the pieces of a sterling silver dinner service, Kensington pattern by International Silver Co., including accompanying porcelain cups and bowls used by George and Esther Meyer Cohen and family starting in the 1920s. Following his death in 1971 and Esther's in 1978, the service was auctioned and purchased by the donors.
